Chevron v. Donziger

March 4, 2014

NEW YORK, NY – Following a six-week bench trial, U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan (SD-NY) ruled in favor of Chevron Corporation and invalidated a $9.5 billion judgment issued in Ecuador against the oil giant for environmental damage in the South American country. Judge Kaplan determined that the judgment was obtained by fraud and racketeering and ruled that Steven Donziger, a New York lawyer, along with an Ecuadorian legal team poisoned the case by submitting faulty evidence and promising money to a judge in return for a favorable ruling.

Partners Randy M. Mastro, Andrea E. Neuman and William E. Thomson (Gibson Dunn) represented Chevron at trial. The Impact Trial team consisted of Randall E. Carter, Bill Weir, Kara Lyon, Michael Grossklaus, Brittany Peters, Clinton Lam, and John Christopher. Impact provided the trial team with invaluable trial technology support and litigation graphics consulting throughout the lengthy trial.
