Settlement Reached in NJ Refinery Site Contamination Case

MOUNT HOLLY, NJ – The State of New Jersey and ExxonMobil jointly announced a $225 million settlement to resolve liability in the contamination of the Bayonne and Bayway refinery sites. The agreement holds Exxon responsible for the ongoing cleanup of both sites, and brings to a close more than a decade of litigation over the contamination.

Partners Theodore V. Wells, Jr., John F. Baughman, Dan Toal and Jaren Janghorbani (Paul Weiss) represented ExxonMobil throughout the proceedings. Impact’s Jesse W. Stevenson, Clinton Lam, Kara Lyon, Michael Grossklaus, Mia Pham, Kerry Cashman, Mallory Sherman and Jeff Woodbury provided trial presentation and technical assistance throughout the trial.

The case is NJ Department of Environmental Protection v. ExxonMobil, in the New Jersey Superior Court.
