Major Victory for Chevron Over Claims in Ecuador

NEW YORK, NY – Months after a six week bench trial in the SDNY, U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan ruled in favor of Chevron Corp. and declared a $9.5-billion judgment in Ecuador against the oil giant for environmental damage was obtained by fraud and racketeering.

Kaplan ruled that Steven Donziger, a New York lawyer, along with attorneys in Ecuador, poisoned the case by promising money to a judge for a favorable ruling and submitting faulty evidence, among other actions.

Chevron was represented at trial by a team led by partners Randy M. Mastro, Andrea E. Neuman and William E. Thomson of Gibson Dunn.  The Impact trial team consisted of Randall Carter, Bill Weir, Domhnall O’Donnchada, Kerry Cashman, Brittany Peters, Clinton Lam, John Christopher, Jason Dozier, Mia Pham, and Maria Ortiz-Metzger all of whom worked closely with the trial team providing them with invaluable trial technology and litigation graphics consulting and support throughout the trial.

The case is Chevron Corp. v. Steven Donziger et al., case number 2:11-cv-00691, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Request A Proposal

We view your Request for Proposal (RFP) as a key component of the trial preparation process. Far too often, consulting firms and vendor services drastically understate the projected costs that will be incurred by your firm or your client. At Impact, our responding budget estimate is not prepared by a sales person. Our consultants carefully consider the information that you provide us and use their vast experience to furnish you with a sensible budget estimate that you can rely on.

We have supported trials and arbitrations in these states.
