Jury rejects Elon Musk’s lawsuit against OpenAI, Sam Altman, and Microsoft

Following a three-week trial, a federal jury in the Northern District of California returned a verdict in favor of Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, OpenAI, and Microsoft. The jury found for all defendants on question one relating to the statute of limitations, and Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers subsequently dismissed the remaining claims.

Musk had sought approximately $150 billion in damages, along with the removal of Altman and Brockman from their leadership roles and a restructuring of OpenAI. The jury deliberated for less than two hours before reaching its verdict.

Impact Trial had the privilege of collaborating with an exceptional team of attorneys from Dechert LLP and Microsoft throughout this matter. Congratulations to our Impact team members, Ina Lim, Rou Wen, Clinton Lam, Corey Allen, Haixin Guo, Michael Yung, Mike Kelley, Jenny Phillips, and Jesse Stevenson, on this significant result.
